DAVID R. HORWITZ MEMORIAL COMPETITION FOR VIOLIN/PIANO

The David R. Horwitz Memorial Competition is for violin and piano duos.

The required repertoire is two violin and piano sonata or sonatina movements, OR one sonata/sonatina movement and one composition for violin with piano accompaniment.

Requirements: Performers must be in grades 9 through 12, and at least one teacher must be a member of the MSMTA.

The competition is held annually in December, and three cash prizes are awarded if there are at least six entries.

The competition is in honor of the son of Claudette Horwitz, former president of the MSMTA, who studied violin with MSMTA teachers throughout his youth.

The event is funded by the Horwitz/Cornwell families, and by a generous contribution from Lashof Violins of Gaithersburg.
